What is Prayer?

Prayer is simply a conversation with God!  Talk to God and be open and share your thoughts and emotions with Him.  He is waiting to talk with you!  You can ask God anything.  You can share with God your innermost thoughts and feelings-He already knows you inside and out!

Prayer is as natural as talking to your best friend or your spouse or your close family members.  Too many people shy away from talking with God because they believe prayer must have a specific language or format.  There are many ways to pray.  You can pray specific prayers from the Word of God (Bible) or you can just share your heart with Him.  Talk with Him casually or formally anytime of the day or night, anywhere you might be!  Talk with Him in good times and bad!  Share your success and your defeat! Just talk with Him!

You can sit, stand, kneel, lie down, bow your head, lift your head up, eyes open, eyes closed.  You can pray outside, inside, while driving, walking, running, etc.  The main thing is that you are talking with God, the One Who created you and knows you best and loves you!

Conversation involves two, not just one…right?  So how do you hear from God when you talk with Him?  He speaks with you through many avenues.  His Word is the most obvious place–when you ask God about something, look in the Bible to see what He has to say about that thing.  He may use people to speak to you.  He may use circumstances or a picture or something you see or hear to speak to you.  The more time you spend with Him, the more you will be tuned in to the various means of communication from Him.  Things you may not have seen before will stand out to you now!
